The Craziest June Ever

Since I’ve checked in here a whole LOT has been going on. June was only the craziest month ever. I’ll throw out a bunch of photos for you, but first a long recap. The month started with a visit  from my dear friend Laura from Finland. We met in Ialy the summer after I finished college and worked at a discotheque with a bunch (like 15-20) of other internationals. We all lived together in a Real World-style house. Laura and I spent a month living every day together and have stayed close friends. We’re excellent pen-pals and have  visited 3xs now since Italy 12 years ago, though now she’s come to the United States twice now and I really owe her a visit to Finland!! The first time she visited I dragged her from Chicago to Pittsburgh and back, and this time from Chicago to Connecticut and finally New York City. She’s gotten a very “locals” tour of our country so far, and I hope to show her around the Rockies someday too!

So Laura visited, we attended so many “lasts”…brunches with friends, softball games, walk in the nature preserve, zoo festival, a wonderful going away party where I forgot my phone and have exactly zero pictures! And OH YEAH the Pittsburgh Penguins won the Stanley Cup (fun fact, the last time Laura visited in 2009 was the last time the Pens played form and won the Cup. I’m lobbying for Mario Lemiuex to sponsor her trip to see us every year in June as she is obviously the lucky charm). Anyways…. We have such wonderful friends in Chicago and I miss them so much already! In Connecticut, Samantha and Bryan were lovely hosts and generous enough to have our whole extended gang to their lake house where we got to know our newest addition to the Cross family, their new baby Adele who is just the most perfect squish EVER, and Lucie was reunited with her very best friend Ellie. I got to have a little tourist day with friends in NYC, then home to Chicago for whirlwind packing and final goodbyes to dear friends and family.

Then the frenzy began. Will flew out, started work, my mom flew in and helped me deal with the movers and all our various trucks, and Grandma Patti and Grandpa  Jeff were so wonderful as to manage the kitty and kids for the actual move out. Next, a last night with friends in the city, a last lunch with different friends, and finally a kitty pickup/last Mama Patti hugs on our way out. Then a two day road trip with me, BB, two 3 year olds, and a 10mth old cat. Whew. We spent two days recovering at BB’s house in the mountains then back down to Denver for move in day. That’s the month kids. I’ve been working really hard at getting our little house operational, and while it’s still a work in progress it’s feeling pretty comfortable. I’ll be sure to post some pictures once it’s presentable. For now here’s a bunch of photos from the last couple weeks.

One last thought about traveling because the kids were so awesome in the car. Kitty basically did exactly what you see above, and the human children were assisted by movies on the iPad, coloring books, storybooks, songs, felt boards, kinda into audiobooks, snacks, and barely a nap. Our only snafu occurred about 30 minutes from my moms house when Lucie had an emergency bathroom request going up Kenosha Pass and about 10 minutes later had an emergency barfing episode. Yikes. Not so awesome. So maybe some extra baby wipes or something woulda been handy. Notes for next time.
